Over 170 apps from Google's Play store was banned by the Indian Government in the span of two months due to security issues that were unearthed. Some of the famous apps that faced the ban from the Indian Government were TikTok, PUBG Mobile, CamScanner, Shareit among others. The ban took in the wake of the border conflict between Indian and China. But Paytm is not a Chinese application and it is owned by an Indian company called One97 communication LTD, then why Google has removed Paytm from Google Play store? Here are some of the key points you should note.

  • Paytm was removed from Google Play Store because of a violation with Google's Play Store Policy. All the other apps owned by One97 communication including Paytm for Bussiness, Paytm Money, Paytm Mall, and others are available on Google Play Store apart from Paytm.
  • Interestingly, the Paytm apps were removed from Google PlayStore a few hours after Suzanne Frey vice President, Product, Android Security, and Privacy laid out a new guideline about the online gambling in a blog post. She wrote, "We have these policies to protect users from potential harm. When an app violates these policies, we notify the developer of the respective violation and remove the app from Google Play until the developer brings the app into compliance. And in the case where there is repeated policy violation, we may take serious action which may leads to permanent termination of the developer's Google Play Developer accounts. Our policy is applied and enforced on all developers consistently."
"We have the same goal for our gambling policy. We don't allow online casinos or support any unregulated gambling apps that facilitate sports betting. This includes if an app leads consumers to an external website that allows them to participate in paid tournaments to win real money or cash prize, it is a violation of our policies," Suzanne further wrote.
  • Post this removal the Paytm company in a statement said, that the Paytm is unavailable on Google Play Store due to some new updates and downloads. Nowhere does the app mentions that it was removed due to the Google Play's policies violation. "Paytm Android App is temporarily unavailable on Google's Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back soon. All your money is completely safe, and you will continue to enjoy Paytm service once it comes back to Play Store,"  Paytm said in a statement.
  • It is important to note that the Paytm has only been removed from Google's Play Store and not from Apple's App Store. This means that Apple users can still download the app while Android users can't for the time being. However, the android users who already have the Paytm installed into their device can continue its usage.
